Assesment 1

INSTAGRAM - instagram is a mobile app available on apple and android.  It had over 300 MILLION users in December 2014 and is continuing to grow.
Instagram allows the user to post pictures and short 15 second videos for other users to see.
It's key features are that it allows you to follow people, meaning you can see their posts on your newsfeed, allows you to tag users into your photos/videos, it also allows the users to use HASTAGS # to point out anything relevant   #BLOGGER
You can search for followers, or hastags to find anything you are interested in looking at. If you double tap this means you like the picture and the wee heart will fill in red!
On instagram you can pick your own username and also write a short description about you in your bio, you can also make you page private so if someone wants to follow, you have to choose to accept their request first.
The key feature of instagram is that before you post the picture you can add a filter over the top of it, making it look different.
There are few rules when it comes to what instagram allows you to post.  You may have heard in the news a few months ago when they banned #curvy, this caused a big social frenzy and the ban was lifted but there are a number of hastags that are still banned such as #sex #weed # nudes and many more, the lists is said to be over 200.
Another thing instagram tries to ensure is that instagram posts appropriate pictures, this means any posts containing violence, or nudity can be reported, then the post will be assessed and if deemed fit it will be removed.

Instagram accounts range from personnel to business, many business such as the clothing chain RIVER ISLAND, shoe designer SOPHIA WEBSTER and even celebrities such as DAVID BECKHAM use the app for advertising.  Clothing companies use the app for advertising up and coming collections and advertising campaigns, they also use it to run competitions that help contribute to them getting a bigger audience.  The more people that enter the competition the more people that see the more people see the post so the more audience they reach.

Personally instagram is my favourite social media app to use, i post at least 3 times a day on it, it's a great app that allows people to see what you're up to throughout the day and share occasions with them through pictures or short videos!

Moving on we then than the largest social media site/app right now it's FACEBOOK.

FACEBOOK -  facebook allows you to add friends, post on your wall or on their wall, you also like pages that are relevant to you, or pages you just want to keep up-to-date with.

It is one of the most popular sites with instagram coming in second.
On facebook you can write a status saying for example about your day you can make these private so only friends can see, public so anyone who finds your page can see or even so that only you can see it.  If you do choose to allow the public/friends to see the post then they can also like it by clicking the wee thumbs up icon and vica versa.

Facebook allows people to connect from all over the world, making it handy to stay in touch with people who have moved away/across the globe.  To allow people to recognise you you have your own facebook profile that allows you to upload pictures and select one as your profile picture, this is the first picture that anyone looking for you will see.  You can also have a cover photo if you choose so, this is a photo at the top of your profile allowing you to personalise your facebook, letting people see your personality/interests.  Along with this you also write a short description about yourself and select your interests by liking pages.
Facebook is also used by businesses to update followers on new products, campaigns, offers and the latests adverts.  Like instagram they also have competitions helping them broaden they target market because once one person shares it all there friends will see it and so on.

Who doesn't like a good contest where you can win something for free all just for sharing a post!

Facebook is quite strict on what you can post and cannot post.  If you are tagged in a photo by someone you can remove that tag if you wish too, you can also report photos that you think are not appropriate for the site, these will be reviewed and if facebook see fit they will remove the post.

Facebook also allows you to direct message people, this is when only you and the person you are talking too can see the chat privately.  You can also see if they have viewed the message so you know if you are being ignored!!
I use facebook every day its a great way that for me to keep friends and family updated on what me and my wee boy get up too, it also allows me restrict who i want to see certain posts.

CONCLUSION

Social media is a great thing to use, but you must always be careful personal or business, there is many campaigns that have affected businesses because of social media for example the #kylielipchallenge, this was a thing going around on social media where users would upload videos of them sucking on cup to make there lips bigger on facebook and instagram.  This affected the company CandyLipz.  Another company that went bad was with the apple watch, people blasted apple on social media after they discovered the watch doesnt work if you have tattoos on your skin.  So even though social media is a great form there is always risks whether its from a businesses perspective or a personnel perspective with online bullying etc.

BE CAREFUL WHEN USING SOCIAL MEDIA AND THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE!!!

  1. Good stats/charts about Instagram use Tammie. The Instagram section was interesting and informative, and you used some good examples to help illustrate this.
Some good visual examples provided for Facebook use. Some examples provided regarding behaviour/online etiquette for business and personal use of social media.
Not sure about your choice of font :-)
